Controlled Assessment: Spoken Language Study

Comment:

This essay demonstrates that you have an abundance of ideas and thoughts about spoken and text-based communication. Many of these were perfect for an essay discussing the idea of creativity in language. You also kept a clear focus on the question, and made strong attempts to ensure all the information you were communicating was answering the question. You organised your thoughts into paragraphs that generally had clear purpose. Your language accuracy is developing well, despite some errors introduced by use of spell-checking.

To develop your work further, you will want to:

  • Ensure you use specific examples every time you make a point. (For example, when you talked about how people can’t be interrupted in texting, it would have been excellent if you’d given an example from the transcript of where someone was interrupted while speaking).
  • Explain EVERY example in detail. This means every time you quote some text in an essay, you then clearly identify the use of language devices in it, as well as explain how it is a good example of the point you’re making.
  • Keep to the formal paragraph structure of an essay. The inclusion of transcripts and extended paragraph-level examples that you felt should speak for themselves was not effective.
  • When using spell-check, take time to ensure the words you’re using to replace your own are the correct one by looking up their definitions
